Our Veterinary Nurses

Amanda Twells Cert SAN RVN
Amanda is our Head Nurse, having qualified in 1997, followed by gaining her City and Guilds qualification in Small Animal Nutrition, Veterinary Health Advisor and NVQ Assessor status in Veterinary Nursing. She has worked at Ashfield House since 1994.
Outside of work, time is spent with nieces and nephews as well as supporting Derby County. Amanda has an extremely well behaved long-haired German Shepherd called Dempsey. She is very proud of him!

Louise Tomlinson Cert SAN DipAVN(Surg) RVN
Louise is our Deputy Head Nurse having qualified in 1988. She gained her Diploma in Advanced Surgical Nursing in 2001, and is one of our senior team members having worked at Ashfield House since 1992. Louise has also been an assessor of Veterinary Nurse training for us since 1998.
Her spare time is spent with her border collies Max and Ben. She takes them to training classes but confesses to spending her time there watching Ben misbehave in front of all the others. She also owns a horse called Stridey and is a Leeds United football supporter.

Jess Beckett BSc (hons) RVN
Jess graduated in 2005 with an honours degree in Animal Science. She started as a student Veterinary Nurse at Ashfield House in January 2006 and in October 2008, she graduated as a Registered Veterinary Nurse.
Jess' special veterinary interests include cytology and hand-rearing kittens. She started her Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing at Harper Adams University in July 2010. Jess runs our Facebook page and our laboratory and is a Clinical Coach for student nurse training.
Jess has 4 cats called Roobee, Hendrix, Wilfy and Spider and a Staffordshire Bull Terrier called Brodie.

Sophie Duffell RVN
Sophie has worked at the practice since February 2007 as a trainee Veterinary Nurse. In October 2009, Sophie successfully qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse.
Prior to this, Sophie worked at a rescue farm after completing a diploma in Animal Care.
She has a keen interest in exotics and has a dog called Toby and a tortoise called Tallulah.

Sarah Pattinson RVN
Sarah has worked at Ashfield House since February 2008. She started as a Receptionist and since August 2008 has worked as a trainee Veterinary Nurse.
Sarah has done a first and national diploma in Animal Management; knowing that she has always wanted to care for animals. She has finished her training and in April 2012, she passed her final veterinary nursing exam.
Sarah has interests in surgery, exotics and hand-rearing and fostering kittens. Her pets include 12 degus, Lulu the tortoise, Mitch the rabbit, JD the hamster, Moby Dick the fish and Scooby a collie cross to keep her busy at home.

Andrea Grimley
Andrea joined Ashfield House in July 2010. She had just finished studying Psychology, English and Biology A-Levels at college. In September 2010, Andrea began her Veterinary Nursing training at College.
She gets plenty of practice at home with 3 rabbits, 2 guinea pigs, a Labrador called Luna, a cat called Sheldon and a foster cat called Millie.

Rebecca Antill
Rebecca started at Ashfield House as a trainee, and following 1 week's work experience was offered a job here in July 2011. She went to Broomfield Hall and has a national diploma in Animal Management.
Apart from being obsessed with holidays, Rebecca has quite a menagerie at home:
A cat – Parsley, 3 rabbits - Lexi, Clio and Dexter, 2 guinea pigs - Luchy and Snowy, 2 leopard geckos - Roxy and Recko, 3 gerbils - Jasper, Jayjay and Gerry, 1 budgie – Frostie, 1 russian hamster – Ruby, and she desperately wants a dog; but her Dad won't allow it!

Serena Metcalfe
Serena went to Broomfield Hall and achieved a national diploma in animal management in 2010.
She has been working at Ashfield House Veterinary Hospital since September 2010 as a trainee veterinary nurse and is starting her second year at college.
Serena is extremely busy out of work looking after her 2 Basset Hounds named Trevor and Trudy. She also cares for her 2 terrapins, 3 guinea pigs and 2 chinchillas.

Ellie Jones
Ellie used to work at Nottinghamshire County Council before deciding to do something a bit more fulfilling and become a Veterinary Nurse! She had been with us for a year at our Byron Surgery before starting her training at Long Eaton in September 2011.
She has three dogs: Nelson, Barkley and Dennis. Out of work she enjoys swimming and horse riding.

Helen Spencer Cert SAN RVN
Helen is a senior member of the nursing team, having worked at Ashfield House since 1996. She gained her qualification as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 1999, then completed her City and Guilds qualification in Small Animal Nutrition as well as NVQ Assessor Status in Veterinary Nurse Training.
Her main interests are in theatre work and surgical nursing.
Outside of work, Helen has a very busy family life, being a mum to her two young children Luke and Emma. She also has a rescue cat called Twiglet who was abandoned in a cardboard box as a kitten.

Adele Carter
Adele is one of our longest serving nurses, and has worked with us since 1986 and helps lead the Spondon branch.
Her favourite animals are cats and guinea pigs. She excels in helping clients solve their problems, and is currently studying nutrition.
